Ruth worked for a couple of decades helping libraries (and librarians) moving data from various library information systems into the Koha Library Software. In the process of doing these conversions, she ended up using Perl to extract and munge data from a number of library systems.

In this talk, Ruth gave an overview of the kinds of information systems libraries use. She discussed some of the issues with converting from one system to another. She also gave a bit more insight into what real librarians actually do (hint: it's not just about shelving books).

Along the way, Ruth developed a number of tools in Perl that helped her make these conversions.

The talk sparked quite a few questions and a lively discussion.

We had 13 people attending this month. As always, we'd like to thank cPanel, Inc. for providing the meeting space and food for the group.
