Bitcoin Payment Processing

JD started his presentation with the kind of background material that you can find almost anywhere about bitcoin. He explained a bit about the mechanisms for creating and using bitcoin. Unlike most on-line information, JD also discussed some of the (currently theoretical) attacks that can be made against bitcoin. Some of these attacks have been successfully applied to systems that are similar to bitcoin.

He went on to discuss exchanges, bitcoin mining, wallets, and various sites for using bitcoin.

Toward the end of the meeting, he introduced the command line utilities for bitcoin. He showed how they could be used to extract information from your wallet. He also described the API. This interface supplies information in JSON, which is quite convenient for web applications. Finally, he discussed a few Perl modules.

The group was very interested. Several people asked questions, quite often digging in to detail to make certain they understood.

The notes for JD's talk are available.

We had 11 people attending this month. As always, we'd like to thank cPanel, Inc. for providing the meeting space and food for the group.
